So you’ve consecrated yourself to Mary. Now what?
I’ve heard this question so many times. I’ll admit, I’ve asked it myself. But think about it – if you’re asking that question, do you really understand what the consecration is?
Making your Marian Consecration isn’t a one-time deal. It isn’t just some “nice” thing to do. It isn’t just a box to put a check mark through on your list of latest Catholic have-to’s.
It’s about relationship. It’s about developing a life of intimacy with Mary. It goes beyond simply knowing about her and going deeper in order to know her. It’s living the Marian lifestyle, a lifestyle that penetrates the whole of our Christian life.
The more we come to know her, the more we come to understand the deep, sweet yet intense, constant, motherly love she has for each of us. The way she gives gifts of grace throughout our lives, in moments both big and small. And the more we come to understand Our Lady’s love for us, the more we come to love her in return.
Our love for her should move us to action, to show her the reality of that love. Living in an effort to please her. Living as her children.
What pleases her? That we do the Will of the Father. Her Father. The Will of the Son. Her Son. The will of the Holy Spirit, her spouse. Our Comforter. Our Consoler. Mary knows God’s plan for our lives better than we do. And she’ll be there every step of our journey, making our small efforts more fruitful than we could imagine. That’s her own God-given mission after all – to form us into the sons and daughters God created us to be.
So what does it look like to “Live Marian”?
It’s living with the confidence that Our Lady is in control. It’s living with the assurance that she is leading us. She is guiding us. She is mothering us.
The simple key is asking for her help.
